Charles Ofria

Charles Ofria is an MSU assistant professor of computer science and engineering and one of the founders of the MSU Digital Evolution Laboratory.

Evolution is a pain for scientists to study. It just plain takes too long. Ofria and his colleagues have created an artificial world in a computer, a world in which computer programs take the place of living organisms. The Digital Evolution Laboratory offers scientists the opportunity to watch evolution take place before their eyes using "digital organisms.”
